METASITU

‘Expedition to Ecumenopolis’ is a collective exploration of an idea that at METASITU we see central to contemporary urbanism: Ecumenopolis.

The expedition is designed to take place over the course of two to three days and is open to the general public, ranging from highschool students to business executives. The expedition proposes a deeply immersive introduction to the idea of the conceptualization of the city as one continuous global entity.

We propose to explore very different landscapes within the physical entity of the city - the iconic and the ignored, the excavated, irradiated and the pristine - that are embedded in global systems that connect them in surprising and complicated ways to our everyday lives.

The aim of the event is to spend substantial time in the selected locations and capture the discussions and ideas in short video pieces developed by the expedition participants.

Our intention is to involve different people in contemporary and global urbanism discussions by navigating different international supply chains and seeking to map the complex and contradictory realities of the present as a site of strange and extraordinary futures.
